The new Canadian Red Cross Be Ready app available for free downloadDisasters such as fires, floods or even earthquakes are the types of emergencies we think will never happen to us or loved ones; but 90,000 people affected by recent wildfires in Alberta have two words for you: Be Ready.

Knowing the types of disasters that could occur, having a plan when one does occur, and keeping emergency items ready can reduce stress and save lives. The Be Ready app gives users instant access to information needed in order to prepare for different emergency situations and to take action when a disaster strikes.

Providing useful information for emergencies ranging from fires, power outages, hurricanes, severe weather to flu prevention, the app features an alert system and monitors and tracks weather developments, using data feeds provided through the Weather Network.

With this information directly in your hands, you can better prepare your homes and families for disasters and emergencies.  The app also provides an interactive learning tool with a variety of functions. Whether you want to brush up on your preparedness skills, test your knowledge in the quiz section, or even purchase an emergency preparedness kit, it’s all within reach through one simple free download on your iOS or Android device.
