A long-time resident of Castlegar, a community in British Columbia’s West Kootenay region, Deborah was awarded the Order of Red Cross at the Officer level last summer. She previously received the Order of Red Cross, Member, in 2019. It’s the organization’s highest honour, recognizing her decades of exceptional humanitarian service.

For more than 10 years, Canadian Red Cross volunteer Janis Brown has been there to support Canadians impacted by wildfires, floods, hurricanes, and public health emergencies; this summer, she was one of the people affected by wildfires in British Columbia.
The purpose of this blog, quite simply, is to talk. This blog is an opportunity for Red Cross staff, volunteers, supporters and friends to share stories about what is happening in your community and the important work you are doing. It is a tool that will help keep all of us connected.
