How Definity and the Canadian Red Cross Support Emergency Preparedness in Canada

Each year, emergencies and disasters impact communities across Canada. As disruptive events such as wildfires, floods, and severe storms become more frequent, being prepared has never been more important.

Emergency Preparedness Week is an opportunity to raise awareness and recognize the importance of readiness when it comes to preparing for an emergency or disaster.

We encourage people living in Canada to learn the steps to take before, during, and after an emergency

A Long-standing Partnership with the Canadian Red Cross

Definity Financial Corporation has been a long-standing partner of the Canadian Red Cross, supporting disaster response efforts and promoting emergency preparedness across the country.

Together, we’re ensuring individuals, households, and communities have the knowledge and tools to prepare for and be ready in case of emergencies and disasters.

As a member of the Disaster Response Alliance, Definity supports a collective effort to ensure communities across Canada have access to critical resources, funding, and support when disasters occur.

Through this partnership, the Red Cross is equipped with the funding, tools, and resources needed to respond quickly when an emergency or disaster occurs, ensuring support is available when it matters most.

Helping Individuals and Households in Canada Prepare with Be Ready

One of the key programs supported by Definity is Be Ready, a Canadian Red Cross initiative designed to help individuals, households, and organizations prepare and adapt to emergencies and disasters.

Be Ready offers educational resources, tools, and workshops, contributing to overall emergency preparedness at the household level, thereby enhancing community resilience.

The Four Steps to Being Prepared:

  1. Know your risks in your community
  2. Make a plan
  3. Build a kit
  4. Build a network in your community
Taking these four steps is an important part of being prepared. Be Ready workshops are offered regularly across the country by the Canadian Red Cross. They can help individuals and families put these steps into practice while building the skills and confidence needed to respond in an emergency.

“We give the audience the tools and insights about how to prepare themselves to react with a plan and a kit if their family has to face an emergency such as a house fire, flood, wildfire, earthquake or power outage," says Mindy, a Canadian Red Cross Be Ready Facilitator.
