The Canadian Red Cross supports this week by sharing trusted information, offering workshops and webinars and working with partners across the country to build stronger, more prepared communities.
What the Canadian Red Cross is doing
Starting May 3, we will have a range of activities to help individuals, households and organizations improve their preparedness.Our teams across the country will participate in community events and local outreach activities during Emergency Preparedness Week. These activities help share preparedness information directly with communities and support ongoing capacity-building efforts.

- Know the risks: Learn about the emergencies that could impact your community.
- Make a plan: Learn how to create a household emergency plan so everyone knows what to do in an emergency.
- Build a kit: Learn how to prepare an emergency kit with essential supplies.
- Build a network: Learn more about connecting with neighbours, friends and family members so you can support one another during emergencies.
- Organizational preparedness: Learn how businesses and organizations can assess and strengthen their preparedness using the Ready Rating™ program.
- Service continuity planning for community service organizations: Learn how frontline organizations that provide community services can plan to maintain critical operations during emergencies.
Another resource to support classroom learning is the Emergency Preparedness Activity Kit, designed for elementary students in Grades 1 to 6. Developed in alignment with Emergency Preparedness Week, it helps educators introduce key preparedness concepts in a fun and age-appropriate way. The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to offer this free digital kit with ready-to-use materials, including an interactive activity booklet and a downloadable Certificate of Completion for participating students.

Get Ready in the Park
Get Ready in the Park is a free, informative and interactive event hosted annually in May by the City of Edmonton's Office of Emergency Management. The event is fun for the whole family and highlights the work of the regional emergency response community.

This family-friendly, drop-in event is an opportunity for Jasper residents to connect with emergency services staff, ask questions, and learn how we all work to stay safe and prepared. This free, family-friendly event is designed to engage and educate residents of Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, and Parkland County about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. The day typically includes interactive displays, emergency response equipment, educational materials, and opportunities for residents to connect with local agencies and organizations.

Preparedness Information Booth
The preparedness booth provides community members with practical information and free materials to help them prepare for hazards common to the region. Visitors can learn simple steps to reduce risks, build emergency kits, create family emergency plans, and understand local hazards such as severe weather, power outages, or other emergencies. The booth offers educational handouts, interactive discussions, and referrals to local resources to support individual, family, and community resilience.
