06/26/13 - Update on Red Cross flood relief efforts in Alberta

Highly trained disaster management volunteers from across the country are on the ground working to provide relief to affected communities following extreme floods in Southern Alberta.

Volunteers continue to support shelters or reception centres in affected communities including Siksika, Morley, Tsu T'sina, Blackie, Nanton, Medicine Hat, Okotoks, Calgary. Teams are also working with food banks who have seen an increase in demand following the floods and are coordinating a large distribution of flood relief supplies.

A 24-hour hotline has also been set up to help families reunite with their loved ones at 1-866-696-6484. Affected families can register as "Safe and Well" at redcross.ca.

The Canadian Red Cross is providing registration services to assist the Government of Alberta in identifying households affected by the ongoing flooding. Anyone with questions about the nature of this assistance should visit alberta.ca/RecoveryInformation. Affected families can register online at redcross.ca/ABRegister, or by calling 1-866-696-6484.

Donations to the Red Cross are supporting ongoing relief and recovery efforts in affected communities, many of which remain evacuated, and will continue to help families as they recover from the flooding. Donations can be made at redcross.ca, by calling 1-800-418-1111, or by texting REDCROSS or ROUGE to 30333. Rogers customers can text ABHELP to 4664.
