Comfort at any age
- Recently, Red Cross provided assistance to a family in Saskatchewan who survived a catastrophic house fire. The family was barbecuing on their deck. The son stepped out to check on dinner but hesitated when he reached the grill. The barbecue seemed far too hot, so he returned to the kitchen to fetch some oven mitts. Just as he crossed the threshold, the propane tank exploded.
2018 Red Cross Humanitarians of the Year announced
- The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce that Duna Barber has been selected as the 2018 Regina Humanitarian of the Year and Alix Norum has been selected as the 2018 Regina Young Humanitarian of the Year.
Behind the scenes: One Canadian Red Cross volunteer’s experience in North Carolina
- On disaster responses, there are many different jobs that make the operation possible. In addition to volunteers and staff working face-to-face with those affected, there are also numerous behind-the-scenes responders who help keep the operation running smoothly. Canadian Red Cross volunteer David Rennie of Halifax, Nova Scotia is one such volunteer.

- The Canadian Red Cross is assisting 15 families affected by an apartment fire in Regina on August 12.

- David Fraser has been a disaster management and communications volunteer for more than 10 years, providing comfort in times of emergency for many Canadians. Recently, he received the highest honour as a volunteer, the Order of the Red Cross, for his dedication in going above and beyond to help others.

- The Canadian Red Cross in Saskatchewan is seeking nominations for the 2018 Regina Young Humanitarian of the Year Award and the 2018 Regina Humanitarian of the Year.
Volunteering: a way of life
- For Andrew DeGruchy, volunteering is a part of his life. The 30-year-old has been a volunteer firefighter and Lieutenant with Cold Lake Fire-Rescue for eight years. When evacuees from the La Ronge, Saskatchewan area were sheltered in Cold Lake, he got a first-hand look at the work Canadian Red Cross volunteers do; and that prompted him to become part of the disaster management team.
Taking the time to make an evacuation plan saves lives in Moose Jaw
- On December 11th, 2017 a fire broke out at the Crestview Housing Cooperative in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan damaging several of the apartments and displacing a lot of the residents. In an overwhelming show of support, the citizens of Moose Jaw, with help from some teams from the Canadian Red Cross, rallied to the scene.

- Tragic events, like the bus accident which resulted in multiple deaths and injuries to the Humboldt Broncos hockey team can leave us feeling helpless, confused, angry, or worried. It is difficult to understand why things like this happen, or what it means for the future. In times like this, it is important for people to connect with each other, and support one another.
