- A couple of years ago, Gwen Schick retired. She discovered that she missed meeting people in the course of her travels for work. So, Gwen started volunteering as a Friendly Phone volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross in Saskatchewan.

When he arrived, he found three people - a man lying on the ground, one woman standing and talking on her phone, and a second woman crouching beside the man scrolling on her phone.

- “As the men were coming out of the trenches, the Red Cross met them with a cup of tea,” Skawski said. “It probably wasn’t very hot considering what was going on at the time, but they always met them with a cup of tea.”
