- For many Canadians, spring can be a welcome sight. Many of us are yearning to put away our winter boots and shovels, see flowers bloom instead of snow fall, and enjoy warmer weather. Yet with warming climates, spring can also bring an increased risk of flooding. Flooding can be a serious issue for Canadian families so we want to help you prepare for any flooding in your home or community with these resources and tips.
Playing it Safe: Promoting healthy relationships for teens with developmental disabilities

Restoring Family Links; inspiring hope for families
- Ridwan Jamal grew up in the Oromia region of Ethiopia with his parents, a brother and his sister. Their idyllic family life was forever changed when political unrest struck the region. Ridwan’s sister, Samira, was fearful of being married off so she ran away. In the resulting turmoil, the remainder of Ridwan’s family was imprisoned for a time. The family didn’t hear from Samira again, and after an exhaustive search, they believed she was dead.
100 years of helping with Dilke Red Cross
- It takes a long time to grow an old friend.
You could call it the unofficial motto of the Dilke Red Cross Society, with close-knit friendships being one of the reasons why the organization has lasted the test of time.
The group from the small Saskatchewan community of Dilke is celebrating 100 years this year.
Skills and insight gained at Red Cross youth symposium
- As part of the Canadian Red Cross Healthy Youth Relationships curriculum, Saskatchewan runs two youth symposiums with the goal of empowering youth with leadership skills so that they are better equipped to serve their schools and communities. We caught up with 14-year-old Olivia Scrimshaw, a student in Saskatoon, to find out what the symposium meant to her.
Volunteer admires the power of community in disaster responses
- Brenna Brown is a Disaster Management volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross. She was most recently involved in the Alberta Fires response, setting up emergency reception centres and shelters in Calgary and Edmonton to provide services for the thousands of evacuees from Fort McMurray and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
Plans Announced for Red Cross Pink Day 2017
- The Canadian Red Cross announced plans to reach 100,000 people and students across Saskatchewan during its annual Red Cross Pink Day campaign, slated for February 22, 2017.

- Almost a year after she won the Red Cross Campaign for Kids Raffle, a phone call to Bernice Philipow finds her filling out her paperwork for this year’s campaign. “I just might get lucky again this year!” Philipow laughs.
A Silver Cross Mother and her Red Cross service
- Red Cross volunteer Nicole Beauchamp, her husband Robert, and their family have long served their community and country. Beauchamp has been with Red Cross for 20 years and spent part of her summer assisting Alberta fire evacuees, first in Edmonton in May and then again in Calgary in June and July.
Support when it's needed - one Fort Mac evacuee's story
- Fort McMurray people are resilient. When wildfires, which scorched an area 100 times the size of Manhattan, destroyed some 2,500 town buildings and resulted in a month-long evacuation, even the strongest residents were tested. Meet one person the Canadian Red Cross had the privilege to support, Eva Janvier.
