Red Cross update on Saskatchewan flooding
- It's been a busy summer here in Saskatchewan. Flooding at the end of June caused 154 communities to declare a state of emergency and forced many families from their homes. Here is an update on how Red Cross helped these families and continues to support the recovery of whole communities.
Red Cross opens flood recovery centres in Saskatchewan
- Thousands of people in Saskatchewan are starting to clean up after the floods, and the Canadian Red Cross is helping, focusing on providing help not available through other programs or insurance.
Red Cross responding to flooding in the Prairies
- Significant rainfall this past week in Saskatchewan and Manitoba has resulted in flooding in several towns and communities, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate their home. In Manitoba, more flood waters are expected to come from the west in the coming days.
Teddy bear power: An unexpected item in our disaster preparedness kit
- While we always talk about what should be in your disaster preparedness kit, we don’t often tell you what goes in ours. When we prepare for disasters we are not only preparing to ensure we can keep working should the worst happen, but also to help take care of those affected by disasters. We make sure that we have the basics: food, water, clothing, and other essential items that we can provide to those in need. We often have other administrative items as well, like: signs, pens, paper, rubber bands, pre-organized paper work and so on, to help us distribute aid in an organized manner.
