Red Cross opens flood recovery centres in Saskatchewan

Thousands of people in Saskatchewan are starting to clean up after the floods, and the Canadian Red Cross is helping, focusing on providing help not available through other programs or insurance.

On Wednesday, July 9, the Red Cross opened Flood Recovery Centres in four communities to support individuals and families. Those affected by the floods can meet in confidence with a Red Cross case worker who will assess your needs and discuss available resources, including referrals to other community partners. The Red Cross Recovery and Information Line, 1-888-953-3463, also allows you to leave a confidential message.

The Red Cross is also participating in recovery centres opened by the Government of Saskatchewan.

As of July 9, 79 municipalities in Saskatchewan had declared a state of emergency. On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, the Canadian Red Cross is providing relief assistance to hundreds of individuals in eight communities. We are also helping individuals and families affected outside of these communities by providing clean-up kits, food, clothing, housing and other personal services.

So far, we have distributed more than 750 clean-up kits, and are anticipating even more will be distributed in the coming weeks.

You too can help by donating to the recovery effort. As the floodwater recedes, many people will need assistance to get their lives back in order. With your help, the Red Cross will be there to help them every step of the way. Donations can be made online to the Canadian Red Cross response in Saskatchewan, at any Red Cross office by calling 1-800-418-1111, at any Saskatchewan Credit Union, Scotia Bank (until Aug. 4), CIBC, BMO and RBC branch. All donations should be earmarked to the Saskatchewan Floods.
