Northern Ontario Update: Red Cross supporting those evacuated from their homes

More than 200 Red Crossers continue their efforts to provide support to approximately 2,500 people forced to evacuate their homes in the First Nation communities of Kashechewan and Attawapiskat because of spring flooding.

The evacuated communities have been temporarily sheltered in host communities, including Cornwall, Thunder Bay, Kapuskasing, Wawa, Kirkland Lake and Fort Frances. Others have been sheltered in Quebec.

Red Cross volunteers have been helping to ensure those evacuated have their immediate needs met, including necessary supplies for babies or personal hygiene items, as well as registering evacuees and helping families connect with loved ones.
