The Red Cross Round-up

*The Red Cross Round-up is written by Katie Robinson, communications coordinator for the Canadian Red Cross *

The Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our Sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.

HAITI: Over the weekend Hurricane Tomas hit Haiti with strong winds and torrential rains.  Red Cross delegates were in Haiti responding to this disaster.  View their pictures and read Red Crosser Sophie Chavanel's field diary.

ST-LUCIA: In early November, Hurricane Tomas brought heavy rains and sustained winds of more than 90 miles to Saint Lucia. The hurricane has caused severe damage to hundreds of homes and public infrastructure such as hospitals, road networks, water pipes, and electricity and telephone cables.

CLUSTER MUNITIONS: The ICRC is working to end the suffering caused by cluster munitions.  A conference is currently being held in Laos to discuss this issue.

WORLDWIDE:  There are over a billion living in slums, millions sleeping in flooded homes, countless shelters devastated by disasters every year. But safer shelter can be achieved and small changes can make a huge difference.
