In October 2023, the Canadian Red Cross used its International Disaster Relief Fund (IDRF) to fund the deployment of Operations Officer Mark McCaul to support our International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) colleagues in Fiji during cyclone season.

Friendly Calls is a Canadian Red Cross program that matches people over the age of 18 with trained Red Cross personnel. Through regular phone check-ins, our program offers emotional support, healthy coping strategies, and well-being resources and services. 

While the  Friendly Calls Program provides emotional support to people experiencing loneliness and isolation in their everyday lives, what some may not know is that the program can also help participants during sudden and challenging events.

In the heart of the pandemic's isolation, one individual found solace in connecting with others. Dedicated and compassionate volunteer Kian started his journey into the Red Cross Friendly Calls program from a place of empathy and understanding. "I was feeling isolated and frustrated. So, I could imagine what other people were feeling during that time. It felt intuitive to volunteer with the Friendly Calls program."
 

In honour of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Canadian Red Cross is highlighting our efforts to prevent and fight gender-based violence in our communities and around the world.

This summer, Walmart and the Red Cross have worked together to raise $4.2 million across Canada through customer donations, Walmart internal fundraising, and a corporate match of $820,000 from Walmart Canada’s corporate office.

At the beginning of last summer, Josh Windsor was a computer drafting student; by the fall, he had completely changed his career direction and was starting his first semester working towards a degree in Emergency Management.
