Things are getting a bit dicey for the Global Issues Symposium for Youth team as they partake in a team building exercise to balance five dice on popsicle sticks. Every year, the Canadian Red Cross in British Columbia hosts a four-day Global Issues Symposium that empowers secondary school youth with knowledge of global issues including International Humanitarian Law, HIV/AIDS, refugees and connects them with the resources to take action around these issues. The team consists of youth volunteers, known as Resource Leaders, who organize and run the workshops as well as the symposium itself. Recruitment for this year’s Global Issues Symposium for Youth was recently finalized, and the team is getting to know each other as they embark on seven months of intense training.
