It's the cooking challenge sweeping the nation!

On Friday, students from Toronto’s West Humber Collegiate Institute participated in Emergency Management Ontario's (EMO) Great Disaster Cook-Off – a spin on our own Disaster Dining Challenge. The Cook-Off took place during EMO’s launch event for Emergency Preparedness Week at Yonge and Dundas Square in Toronto, which had demonstrations and displays from various government and community agencies that are involved in disaster preparedness and response, including the Canadian Red Cross.

And in ” Iron Chef” style fashion, the Cook-Off was judged by a panel, which included Chef and host of the Food Network's License to Grill, Rob Rainford. Our own Disaster Dude, John Saunders was the MC for the event.

The winning selection was created by the blue team, which was a mixture of canned chicken, canned corn, soda crackers, spices and sauces.

Check out this video clip of Chef Rob Rainford explaining why the dish had the extra umpf to win, and what you should have in your emergency kit to keep things spicy.
