Janet Johnson became Chief Development Officer at the Canadian Red Cross in 2021. She is responsible for leading and implementing the Canadian Red Cross fundraising strategy, building and managing the development team, and driving awareness of the organization’s mission, need and deliverables to expand mission impact and organizational growth.

Janet's passion is helping people connect their philanthropic goals with causes for which they care deeply. Under her leadership, the Canadian Red Cross development team has improved its digital fundraising capabilities and launched both its first National Transformational Giving campaign and a gaming fundraising channel.  

Janet joined the Canadian Red Cross in 2018, as Vice President of Philanthropy. She has more than 25 years of progressive senior leadership experience in the charitable and for-profit sectors. She also possesses an extensive background in sales, marketing, human resources, organizational development and finance.

Janet holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfred Laurier University and a Masters Business Administration degree (specializing in innovation and leadership) from Edinburgh Napier University (UK). She has also completed the Advanced Human Resources Management Program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management and is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL).

Janet resides in Puslinch, Ontario, where she can often be found riding a horse, babysitting her grandchildren or hiking with her Labrador retriever.
