Amy Avis was appointed General Counsel for the Canadian Red Cross in 2017 and has been with the organization for over 10 years. In this role, Amy oversees a team of legal and risk professionals and her role includes compliance, critical incident management, personnel security and public policy.
 
A recognized expert in her field, Amy is frequently asked to present on risk, legal, policy and compliance issues to other charities and humanitarian actors. Amy is a member of the Charities Directorate Technical Issues Working Group, and in 2015 represented the Canadian humanitarian sector in the global Financial Action Task Force consultations in London and Vienna.
 
Amy has a further operational role in specialized emergency management and operates service lines for granting and case management for small businesses and individuals.  
 
During her over ten years with the Canadian Red Cross, Amy has supported the CRC’s major large-scale operations domestically and internationally including Fort McMurray Fires, BC Fires and most recently the COVID-19 response. This support has included successfully negotiating countless contracts and undertaken complex compliance audits across Canada and in South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.
