Garrett Young passionate about giving back

- Meet Garrett Young, a Red Cross volunteer giving back to his community through the Health Equipment Loan Program and as a Duty Officer in the Emergency Management Program. Garrett is younger than most volunteers, and shares the value of volunteering for those just starting out in their careers. 

Giving back, after receiving help

- Like many volunteers, Paul Ravelle first came to the Canadian Red Cross when his wife required specialize equipment following an illness. The Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) in Prince George supported the Ravelle family, and today Paul is a valued HELP volunteer.

- Things changed for Peter when he - like all British Columbians - was required to self-isolate due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Being completely alone at home for an extended period of time, with no clear sense of when the restrictions would be lifted, made a real impact on Peter’s health, both physical and mental.

Passionate about making the world a better place: Remembering Mohammad Asadi Lari

- On January 8, a plane carrying 176 people, including 57 Canadians, crashed outside of Tehran, Iran. The loss of life is enormous, and the impact has been felt deeply by communities across the country. Among the deceased was Canadian Red Cross volunteer Mohammad Asadi Lari. Mohammad was passionate about making the world a better place, which was evident in all the incredible contributions he made to the Canadian Red Cross. 
 

Hurricane Dorian: 3 months later

- Meet Jason, a Canadian Red Cross volunteer who uses his technical skills to focus on logistics. Volunteers like Jason play a critical role in making sure responses to disasters run smoothly, and the supplies that are needed get where they need to go.

- Volunteer Tammy Saunders joined the Canadian Red Cross in the spring of 2012. A self-employed commercial fisher, Tammy says the seasonal nature of her work gives her portions of the year that she likes to fill with volunteering.
 

Spreading the word to help reduce risks in communities

- Many Canadians don't know the risks in their community, so recently Canadian Red Cross volunteers went door-to-door in communities to share information to spread awareness about risks like fires and floods, and the actions residents can take to prepare for potential disasters and emergencies.
