The Canadian Red Cross, through its Restoring Family Links program, is helping people in Canada searching for relatives in the earthquake-affected area. Canadians who have had no news from relatives living in the earthquake-affected area can contact their local Red Cross office to submit a disaster welfare inquiry. This inquiry will be transmitted to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, which will, in turn, attempt to learn the fate of the sought person.

A major earthquake registering 6.3 on the Richter scale hit Iran’s south-eastern city of Bam at 5:30 am (local time) on December 26, 2003. The death-toll is currently at 28,000 and continues to climb. Over 30,000 people have been injured and more than 80,000 are homeless.
