Reuniting families following the earthquake in Bam

Note: The following appeal is now closed.  You can support our ongoing work by donating to the Canadian Red Cross

The Canadian Red Cross, through its Restoring Family Links program, is helping people in Canada searching for relatives in the earthquake-affected area. Canadians who have had no news from relatives living in the earthquake-affected area can contact their local Red Cross office to submit a disaster welfare inquiry. This inquiry will be transmitted to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, which will, in turn, attempt to learn the fate of the sought person.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), is registering people displaced by the earthquake and taking the names of missing persons. The tracing teams, equipped with satellite phones, are also giving earthquake survivors the means to contact their loved ones around the world. If telephone contact cannot be made, earthquake victims can also write to their loved ones on Red Cross messages that will be delivered via the international Red Cross Red Crescent network.
