Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Reimbursements for Necessities Related to Health and Safety (formerly Support for Immediate Needs) Program

On behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador the Canadian Red Cross is administering the Newfoundland and Labrador Support for Immediate Needs program starting October 31, 2022.
 
The program provides financial assistance to Newfoundland and Labrador residents living in the areas most impacted by Hurricane Fiona, based on eligibility criteria developed by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Financial assistance under this program is to reimburse residents for costs already incurred for a variety of needs related to the hurricane such as property damage or clean-up.

If you have not registered with the Canadian Red Cross you can still apply for this program.

Who is eligible? This assistance is available to Newfoundland and Labrador residents with a primary residence in the following impacted communities:  
  • Channel-Port Aux Basques  
  • Burnt Islands  
  • Isle aux Morts  
  • Margaree-Fox Roost  
  • Rose Blanche – Harbour le Cou  
  • Burgeo  
  • Ramea  
  • Grey River  
  • Francois  
  • LaPoile  
  • Cape Ray  
  • Codroy Valley  
  • Kippens 
Those interested in applying to the program will need to provide documents showing proof of primary residency in one of the identified eligible communities, as well as receipts for costs already incurred.
 
Receipts must be provided and dated showing that costs were incurred between September 24, 2022 and December 15, 2022.
 
All applications must be received by December 31, 2022. 
 
What does the program cover?
The program can reimburse households for the replacement costs associated with the following items due to the impacts of Hurricane Fiona:  
 
  • Medical devices and aids (e.g. CPAP machine, canes, walkers, wheelchairs)  
  • Healthcare supplies  (e.g. eyeglasses, dentures)
  • Protective equipment (e.g. work uniform, boots, gloves) 
  • Car seats  
  • Strollers  
  • Washers  
  • Dryers  
  • Refrigerators  
  • Freezers  
  • Interior cleaning (e.g. water/mold removal)  
  • Debris removal  
  • Minor repairs  
  • Tree removal  
Receipts must be provided and dated showing that costs were incurred between September 24, 2022 and December 15, 2022.

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador One-Time Financial Assistance

On behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Canadian Red Cross is distributing the following one-time financial assistance to eligible households: 
 
  • $1,000 per household that was temporarily evacuated from their principal residence during the storm but returned home by September 30, 2022, and as approved by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador; or  
  • $10,000 per household that was displaced from their principal residence but were not able to return home by September 30, 2022, and as approved by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
