2021 British Columbia Floods and Extreme Weather: Financial Update

Thanks to the generosity of Canadians, the Government of B.C. and the Government of Canada, the Canadian Red Cross continues to provide support to individuals, families and communities impacted by the flooding and extreme weather event that started on November 14, 2021.

The Red Cross continues to work closely with all levels of government and community leadership to help people with their recovery journey. This includes providing emergency relief for individuals that had to leave their homes, including information and referrals, emotional support, registration, urgent basic needs (e.g. lodging, clothing, and food), evacuation related expenses and clean up kits. This support also includes long-term recovery assistance to help individuals experiencing continued impacts, such as recovery planning, mental health support, and financial assistance for temporary accommodation, clean-up, repair, reconstruction, and relocation.

In addition to helping individuals and families, supports will be provided to eligible small businesses and non-profits that were impacted by the flooding. We are also ensuring needs of impacted communities are supported through the Support to Small Businesses and Not-for-Profits Program, and community granting that will be offered by the Red Cross.

As of May 31, 2022, the Canadian Red Cross has spent or committed more than $37 million to provide supports to individuals and families.
