Claude Beaupré, a vital presence at the heart of so many responses

15,600. That’s the number of hours Claude Beaupré has devoted in service of others since he began volunteering with the Canadian Red Cross in 2021. An outstanding commitment that has made a real difference for hundreds of people affected by disasters.

Every year, the Canadian Red Cross responds to disasters and emergencies both at home and around the world. Behind the images that stick in our minds like the sirens, the firefighters at work, the security perimeters, and hastily evacuated residents, the support offered is often less visible, though no less crucial. In the field, volunteers and responders welcome evacuees, take the time to listen to them and to provide comfort, distribute blankets and water, and help them reconnect with loved ones.

Claude Beaupré has embodied this role for several years. He radiates a quiet strength while he watches over people in need and accompanies them with heartfelt compassion through moments that are often among the most difficult of their lives.

Claude is appreciated by all and has become an indispensable member of our Montréal response teams. Over time, he has earned the trust of his colleagues as well as that of key partners, including the Montréal Fire Department and Sun Youth.

The 15,600 hours he has given reflect 15,600 hours of availability, action, and presence, but above all, compassion. Rain or snow, day or night, Claude is always there. Through his unwavering commitment, he embodies many of the Canadian Red Cross’s fundamental values: humanity, impartiality, and voluntary service.

Safeguarding a symbol of comfort

Claude also plays a key role in managing the Canadian Red Cross emergency response vehicle. Far more than a simple truck, this mobile unit is a true symbol of support for those affected by disasters: a safe, confidential space where people can take a breath, find a supportive ear, and feel welcome when they are most vulnerable. With remarkable attention to detail, Claude ensures its meticulous upkeep, from oil and tire changes to the generator, and he even stores the vehicle at his home.

To honour his outstanding contribution in a lasting and meaningful way, a plaque recognizing Claude will be installed inside the vehicle, a permanent tribute to his invaluable contribution to the Red Cross mission.

Heartfelt thanks

Claude, your dedication has made you a steady, reassuring presence within the Red Cross. Beyond the many ways you support our operations, it’s your commitment, generosity, and constancy that inspire anyone fortunate enough to cross your path.

On behalf of the entire Canadian Red Cross team, thank you!
