Quebec Vice President for the Canadian Red Cross Welcomes Participants

On April 29, 30 and May 1, 2025, in Quebec City, the Canadian Red Cross facilitated a revised version of a training that has been offered for the past 10 years to various stakeholders to help them support Indigenous communities in emergency situations.

“The Canadian Red Cross is deeply committed to working closely with Indigenous communities while respecting their strengths and diversity. I am pleased that this training offered by the Canadian Red Cross will further strengthen our mutual understanding of the emergency preparedness needs of Canada’s Indigenous peoples,” said Pascal Mathieu, Canadian Red Cross Vice President, Quebec.

Most of the participants come from Indigenous communities and include people responsible for Emergency Social Services in their community. Others represent partner organizations or are responsible for coordinating emergency preparedness in Indigenous communities.

The purpose of this training is to provide a respectful and safe learning environment, focused on sharing experiences and knowledge, to empower participants to provide emergency services to Indigenous communities affected by crisis across Canada.

The training covers several topics, including preparing for emergencies, hosting a neighbouring community, identifying which services are needed, the reality and impact of confinement, and the evacuation and return to normalcy phases, complemented by practical exercises.

The Canadian Red Cross works with Indigenous communities, individuals, and organizations across Canada through a variety of support and outreach initiatives.
