Behind every volunteer, there is a unique story. Yet, despite their different backgrounds and experiences, they have one thing in common: a strong will to help people going through a crisis.
Liliane Pilon was already volunteering with other organizations when she spoke to someone at a Red Cross kiosque in Laval back in 2008. Now in her 81st year, Pilon has helped thousands of people since she started wearing a Red Cross vest. She has deployed across Quebec, Canada and internationally as well.

“I love being part of a team, I love helping people, and I love doing that with other people,” says Liliane.
The desire to assist others is equally strong for Jacques Roy, who describes himself as semi-retired. He says he was drawn to the Red Cross and its fundamental principles.

“Helping people through a crisis is a real gift,” says Jacques, recalling one response where a woman had lost everything in a flood. “We provided hope, she had a sparkle in her eyes and she no longer felt alone.”
When Jean-Marc Bacon wrapped up a 46-year career in mining four years ago, he knew the Red Cross was the next step in his personal development.

"My experience with the Red Cross allowed me to develop essential human qualities. I learned to develop empathy and resilience. And nothing beats a sincere smile from someone you've just helped. It's wonderful," says Jean-Marc.
They come from different backgrounds but Liliane, Jacques and Jean-Marc are three Red Crossers who share the same passion. Assisting people who are going through a very difficult time in their lives.
