Happy holidays to our delegates overseas

While most of us will be spending the holidays with our families and friends, we wanted to highlight the special individuals working with the Canadian Red Cross who have sacrificed their holidays here at home to help those in need overseas.

We wanted to make sure that every one of our aid workers (also knowns as delegates) realizes how much we appreciate their work and their dedication, especially at this time of year.

We put together this short video on behalf of staff and volunteers of the Canadian Red Cross to extend holiday greetings and to say thank you to our delegates currently responding to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, as well as those supporting the Red Cross Red Crescent hospital for Syrian refugees, in Azraq, Jordan.

Earlier this month, we reached out on Facebook and asked our friends to share messages to our aid workers in Sierra Leone. These messages were sent along with numerous other items to the Ebola Treatment Centre in Kenema, Sierra Leone, where Red Cross delegates such as Lindsay and Patrice are working to help those affected by the outbreak.

Here's a sample of the well wishes sent in by Canadians:

"Thank you for your courage, compassion and commitment!" - Valerie

"All your efforts are signs of love. Aid workers are blessed people especially in the days of Christmas. Peace and joy with you all in the field" - Walter

"You people are amazing human beings!! Thank you for all your work!" - Laura

This very thoughtful drawing was sent in by 7-year-old Chelsea who says: "You can't hold hands when wearing protective suits but you can hold hands with a snowman between holding each of your hands."
