Using my international Red Cross experience at home for the COVID-19 response

- Since well before the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Canadian Red Cross has been present in countries aroundthe world, working with local Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to strengthen their response to natural disasters and health emergencies. However, with the arrival of COVID-19, 2020 has become an unprecedented year and has led to a shift in our work from an international to a more domestic focus. 

How the Emergency Community Support Fund is helping fathers build their relationship skills

- RePère is a non-profit community organization whose mission is to foster the development of paternal skills by giving fathers the tools to build and maintain strong relationships with their children. Its main goals are to offer support to struggling fathers and help men define their role as a father. The organization has been active in the Montreal area for 25 years.
 

Keeping isolated people in the here and now

- With the Red Cross for over a dozen years, I have been deployed to the scene of unimaginable emergencies many times, including the Lac-Mégantic railway tragedy, the Fort McMurray wildfire, the recent floods in Eastern Canada and to Montreal to welcome many Syrian refugees. Unfortunately, I understand too well the plight of people confronted with extraordinary situations.

- Brandy Cherarmie lived through Hurricane Katrina, where she saw firsthand the help that the Red Cross provides. Since then, she has joined as a volunteer and and has travelled around Canada helping people impacted by emergencies and disasters. 

Canadian Red Cross providing financial aid for flooding relief

- The Canadian Red Cross has announced financial assistance for households in affected Quebec, New Brunswick and Ontario communities directly impacted by spring flooding.

Floods: “Red Cross volunteers are helping us get through this”

- At the Rigaud public library, a dozen people impacted by the floods have come to meet Red Cross volunteers in order to register and receive emergency assistance. In the waiting room, the mood is unpredictable. Laughter can quickly give way to sorrow, and for good reason. This is the second flood in three years for most of the residents here.
