Alberta International Humanitarian Law Conference: Climate Change and Armed Conflict

desert

University of Alberta, Law Students for Human Rights Club and the Canadian Red Cross present the 2022 International Humanitarian Law (IHL) academic conference, to be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022. This conference will bring together experts from the field, including academics and representatives from the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, to discuss Climate Change and Armed Conflict.

Climate change is impacting lives across the world, but it is felt most severely by people in fragile circumstances. People living in situations of armed conflict are disproportionately affected by the climate crisis and often the most neglected when it comes to appropriate support. When climate change and conflict collide, populations face food and economic insecurity, gaps in health care, and lack of access to essential services. These impacts are far-reaching, creating ripple effects throughout countries and regions.

Join experts as they discuss challenges presented when war collides with climate risks and environmental degradation, as well as the role of IHL in protecting the environment during armed conflict.
