In February 2003, the town of Badger, Newfoundland and Labrador experienced significant flooding caused by an ice jam, resulting in the evacuation of more than 1,000 residents.
The Canadian Red Cross registered individuals and families affected by the floods to understand their immediate and long-term needs. With donor support, the Red Cross provided immediate relief in the form of food, clothing, personal care items, and information services.
Additional support was provided to support recovery such as financial assistance to replace essential household items, allowance for children’s needs, and other necessities.
The Canadian Red Cross worked closely with the Department of Human Resources and Employment and Salvation Army to support individuals and families impacted.
An appeal for $3 million was launched on February 19, 2003 to support both the relief and recovery operations of the Canadian Red Cross.
The 2003 Badger flood appeal is now closed. You can support our ongoing work by donating to the Canadian Red Cross.
