One year later: Red Cross remains committed to recovery in Fort McMurray

April 24, 2017 - Almost one year ago, the people of the Wood Buffalo region were fleeing as wildfires tore through their communities and homes. In the months following the disaster, an unprecedented $323 million was donated by individuals, community groups and companies across Canada, including matching funds from the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta, to directly help those affected by the fires. The Red Cross has spent and committed $244 million to date, which represents 75 per cent of the total funds.
 

Walmart and its customers coming together for Canadians

April 20, 2017 - Walmart’s annual campaign for disaster relief and preparedness raised a record setting total of $3.27 million for the Canadian Red Cross this year, including an $818,000 contribution from Walmart.

January 13, 2017 - To help Canadians be prepared when disaster hits, Economical Insurance has renewed its partnership with the Canadian Red Cross, and will provide $450,000 over the next three years for the Red Cross national disaster management program. Despite overall support of Geneva Conventions, Red Cross survey indicates many Canadians uninformed on rules of war

December 05, 2016 - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) today released a new report, People on War, accompanied by a detailed survey of Canadians. The survey found that while over three quarters of Canadians believe it still makes sense to impose limits on war, an astonishing 31 per cent of Canadians indicated they believe that humanitarian aid workers being killed or injured while delivering aid in conflict zones is a part of war.

Over half of Canadians worry last-minute gifts will disappoint this holiday season

According to a recent survey conducted by Ipsos on behalf of the Canadian Red Cross, nearly 30 per cent of holiday shopping is done at the last minute, and over half of Canadians worry those last-minute gifts they purchase will disappoint.

Six months on, Red Cross spends $178 million to assist people affected by wildfires

November 03, 2016 - Six months after a devastating wildfire swept through the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, the Canadian Red Cross is proud to announce that $178 million has already been spent to assist those affected by the fires. More than 58,000 households have received direct financial assistance through an electronic transfer of funds.
