Discover Volunteer Roles for You

Emergency Response Team (ERT) Responder When I was looking for volunteering opportunities the first place I looked was the Canadian Red Cross. It was life-changing, and it really gave me a sense of purpose. My resume has expanded so much by developing all these skills.

Laurie Young, Canadian Red Cross Volunteer

We rely on volunteers from all walks of life. Skills and experience you already have can be an asset in a range of volunteer roles. If you're looking to learn new skills, make meaningful connections, and improve the lives of vulnerable Canadians, you're bound to find a rewarding role for you.

You could help communities in Canada recover and rebuild from large-scale disasters and emergencies or you could help an individual or family who has lost their home in a fire.

There are opportunities to volunteer with the elderly or isolated in your community or you can even join thousands of others in helping our operations team digitally map vulnerable geographical areas.

Help People in Your Community

Just a few hours a week could make the future brighter for people in your community. Community Health Services volunteers lend a hand to make sure people can remain independent in their own homes and stay connected to their community. You might help someone transition home after a hospital stay, make friendly visits, drive them to appointments, or deliver healthy meals to those who need them.

Examples of Community Health Services roles: Friendly Call Program Volunteer, Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) Volunteer and Delivery Driver.

Time Commitment:Varies based on the role and needs. Typically, a few hours a week.

Help Canadians in Large-Scale Emergencies or Personal Disasters

Large-Scale Emergencies

When a wildfire, flood, earthquake, industrial disaster or other major crisis happens, the Emergency Response Team is on the scene to assess needs, provide services for immediate and long-term needs, and & facilitate access to community resources.

Personal Disasters

Personal Disaster Team volunteers respond to small disasters such as house fires. You will assess immediate needs, provide access to services such as shelter, food and comfort, and facilitate access to community resources. You may be called upon to support larger disaster events if you are available.

Examples of Emergency response roles: Emergency Management Volunteer, Emergency Support Services Responder and Emergency Management Virtual Responder.

Time Commitment:As available locally with possible longer commitments (3+ days) outside of community response.
