Delivery Volunteer – Health Equipment Loan Program

Volunteer opportunity conditions :

- Minimum age : 25 years and older.
- To drive CRC vehicles and for insurance purposes, a license with a satisfactory driving record will be required. British Columbia requires a Class 5 Driver's License.
- Minimum volunteer hours/period : One or more shifts per week, of 2 – 4 hours long during Monday – Friday, however some locations may have evening and/or Saturday shifts available. The majority of the duties are performed in an office environment, warehouse space or vehicle, which are mostly clean and comfortable.
- Specific requirements: Volunteers who have a designated Driver role will require a Full Driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
- This position is aligned to National and Provincial Health Standards as required during COVID-19. Personal protective equipment (PPE), physical distancing and regular hand hygiene practices are required.
- This is a reasonably physical role. Due to nature of the role, volunteers should expect that they may lift and carry equipment weight up to 30 lbs or assist in carrying equipment weighing up to 80 lbs; and Climb stairs as well as transition frequently in and out of a vehicle.

The Health Equipment Loan Program is looking for volunteers to help in the pickup and delivery of health equipment at clients’ homes and/or at Red Cross locations. Our equipment loans program is a volunteer-operated, community-based program that lends health equipment such as wheelchairs and bathing aids to people of all ages experiencing a sudden injury, declining health, or short-term disability.
As a volunteer in this role, you may:
- Work closely with the Red Cross Technicians.
- Load, unload, and transport equipment to and from clients’ homes or between Red Cross locations using a Red Cross vehicle.
- Provide professional customer service when delivering or picking up equipment, including calling to confirm pickup and delivery times.
- Complete required documentation.
- Observe routine precautions in the handling of used equipment including use of required personal protective equipment and hand hygiene.
You bring these essential talents :
- Ability to work independently and to collaborate in a team environment.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
- Strong verbal communication and client relationship skills are required.
- Full training is provided; however, volunteers should be comfortable with using a computer, and have good written and conversational English. Other languages are considered an asset.
Working Conditions :
- Daytime shifts Monday to Friday.
- Ideally you are be able to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Social, supportive environment of staff and other volunteers.
- May work with colleagues and serve clients from diverse populations.
A satisfactory Enhanced Police Information Check or equivalent is mandatory for all personnel volunteering or working with the Red Cross.
