2025 Ontario Ice Storm: Support from the Canadian Red Cross and Partners

- In late March 2025, Ontario experienced a major ice storm, causing widespread power outages and damage in Orillia, Pefferlaw, Georgina, Dufferin, and Georgina Island First Nation. Thousands of people were impacted by the ice storm and some communities were without electricity for more than a week.

Canadian Red Cross and Walmart Canada launch annual campaign

- For the next month, Walmart customers  can donate to Red Cross at the checkout in stores across Canada.  Funds raised will go toward disaster relief and preparedness, which may include emergency lodging, clothing, food, personal hygiene and other items.

It must be open to all and it must carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory. Youth hockey tournament faces off for first time in three years 

- Earlier this year, the Creating Safe Environments team, with support from the Philanthropy team, provided funding through SCI for new hockey jerseys for the Moose Cree Scrappers U15 Bantam Youth Hockey team from Moose Cree First Nation. The team sported their new jerseys at the annual Mushkegowuk hockey tournament in Timmins.
