Community grant helps address pandemic-induced food insecurity among Black immigrants
- NAMI serves as an umbrella organization for the various Nigerian social and cultural groups in Manitoba. It encourages business connections, hosts Nigerian and Canadian holidays, and promotes intercultural collaborations.
NAMI Community Grant
- The Nigerian Association of Manitoba was one of the many not-for-profit organizations across Canada that received funding through the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund. The grant provided families in need with food to sustain them for three weeks.

- When Claudine St-Jean saw the posting for people who could assist in Quebec long-term care facilities, she knew immediately she had to put her name forward.
“I had recently lost two family members to COVID-19 in Quebec,” Claudine explained.

- The Red Cross is offering a mini-series of learning sessions for educators and service providers who support young minds and hearts, with the goal of empowering youth on their pathways of health and wellness.

- When the COVID-19 pandemic was declared, newcomer families to Canada were among those hit particularly hard. Regularly accessed community programs shut down, and the sense of isolation grew as spring turned to summer.
Winnipeg volunteer shares her experiences to help fellow newcomers prevent injuries
- When Bavleen Kaur moved to Winnipeg from India, she wanted to volunteer in her new community. Her attention was captured by the Canadian Red Cross SmartStart program, which teaches injury prevention to newcomers to Canada. She ended up applying her newfound safety skills almost immediately.
