- It was an emotional evening as 10 people from Alberta and British Columbia were recognized for their heroic efforts in two life-changing events and given Canadian Red Cross Rescuer Awards at a ceremony in Calgary.
Inspiring the aid workers of tomorrow
- Operation Med School is a one-day conference that brings together 198 high school and university students from Southern Alberta to inspire and educate them to follow their medical dreams.
At this year's conference, the Canadian Red Cross hosted a panel discussion that included three medical aid workers who collectively have been on 15 international deployments. These aid workers gave students a first-hand account of the medical contributions Canadians have been making overseas following some of the most devastating emergencies.

- June 20th marked the two-year anniversary of the Alberta Floods. High River residents gathered together to celebrate how far they’ve come since that devastating day.
Rebuilding after disaster: The long road home
- Two years after severe flooding damaged thousands of properties across southern Alberta, the repairs on Chuck Shifflett’s historic High River home are nearly complete. But, like many in the hardest hit regions, Shifflett and his neighbours are still recovering from the disaster. Down his street, four homes were eventually torn down, and just two were rebuilt so far.
The Canadian Red Cross continues to offer a range of programs and services to people affected by the floods in 2013. This includes Red Cross funding for Samaritan’s Purse, Habitat for Humanity, Mennonite Disaster Services and World Renew to help dozens of families in High River and the Calgary area as they rebuild or repair their homes.
Alberta student makes giving a part of life
- It has always been in Tory Dalrymple's nature to give back. On her eighth birthday, she asked her guests to donate to charity instead of bringing a gift. Since then, the 13-year-old from High River, Alberta, has made giving a part of her life. After learning about the Ebola crisis in school, she set her sights on making a donation to the Red Cross.
