CPR & Mad Men: Confidence from the boardroom to a cardiac emergency

TV's favourite ad men and women returned to television screens across North America last night and if you saw the latest episode you can probably understand why we're interested in a particular scene.

Mad Men Don Draper CPR

Don and Megan's doorman suffers a sudden cardiac emergency and drops to the floor. While Don stands by, a man steps in and begins to perform CPR. The unfamiliar male shouts instructions to Don to help him, but Don is paralyzed by shock, fear, or both. Don's reaction to the medical emergency taking place right before his eyes is a common reaction shared by many people who witness a health emergency. The doorman is lucky the other man was nearby and knew exactly what to do. But Don might not be as lucky the next time he witnesses a cardiac emergency!

Our prescription for Don's reaction: a Canadian Red Cross first aid and CPR course! Not only would a course teach Don how to respond and administer CPR, it would also help him feel confident in his skills and knowledge to help keep his cool ad man demeanour whilst doing it!
