The progress in Alberta: Recovery and restoration

- In June 2013, Alberta experienced heavy rainfall triggering catastrophic flooding.  Over 100,000 people were displaced throughout the region.  As receding waters gave way to the monstrous cleanup, total damage estimates exceed $5 billion in what has now been deemed the costliest disaster in Canadian history.  

Japan: Three years later

- On March 11, 2011, a triple disaster including an earthquake, tsunami and nuclear plant meltdown struck part of eastern Japan, leaving thousands of lives forever changed. Today, with the support of the Red Cross, there is clear progress towards recovery in many communities.

- On November 20, the Canadian Red Cross presented Kids Help Phone with a citation award in recognition for their efforts to create safe environments for children and youth in Canada. The award coincided with International Children’s Rights Day – a time to remember that every child has the right to education, health and protection.
