Youth Leader Training

Become a Youth Leader to play a vital role in empowering the next generation through the Red Cross Youth First Aid Program. You will deliver engaging Stay Safe! and Babysitting courses, equipping young people with essential life-saving skills.
You will be part of the Youth Leader Development Program, designed to cultivate your ability to facilitate dynamic, interactive learning experiences through the Red Cross Training Partners.
Duration
5-7 hours online, plus teaching experience.
Prerequisites
- Minimum age of 18 y/o (or 16-17 y/o with adult support)
- Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C certification or equivalent
Completion
- Completion of the online component (Fundamentals of Instruction for Youth Leaders)
- Completion of a Teaching Experience (unless meet exceptions listed below).*
*Youth Leader candidates must complete a teaching experience with a certified Canadian Red Cross Teaching Experience Supervisor. Candidates who qualify for the Youth Leader Transfer pathway are required to own the current participant materials (detailed below) and complete the 'Fundamentals of Instruction for Youth Leaders' online component, but completion of a Teaching Experience is not required.
Eligibility for the Youth Leader Transfer pathway may include:
- Educators (elementary or secondary level), or
- Candidates who hold one of the following current certifications:
- Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor
- HIGH FIVE Trainer
- National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 2 or above (any sport)
- Canadian Aquafitness Leaders Alliance (CALA) Instructors
- Water Art Instructor or Canadian Fitness Professionals (CANFit PRO)
Certification
Youth Leader certificate is available for download upon successful completion of training and is valid for 3 years.
