September 2026: Humanitarian Education Training at Ottawa U Faculty of Ed

Canadian Red Cross Humanitarian Education (H.Ed) lessons delve into history, ethics and politics, human psychology, and reveal a whole network of international organizations working to apply International Humanitarian Law, also known as the law of war. Humanitarian Education trainings provide the required knowledge and support to facilitate H.Ed lessons in the classroom.
This full day training, available to high school teachers and Teacher Candidates in Ontario, is facilitated by Canadian Red Cross legal experts and humanitarian practitioners from the field alongside teachers currently implementing H.Ed lessons in their classrooms. Subject matter experts walk teachers through FREE ready to use lessons about humanitarian issues and International Humanitarian Law. Lessons complement subjects such as global issues, social studies, history, law, civics and language arts. Curriculum maps can be requested for most subject areas.
Certificates of recognition are available. To receive the certificate, in-person attendance in September 2026 is required, as is completion of 3 hours of asynchronous online content at a later date. You can direct any questions you may have about this training to HumanitarianEducation@redcross.ca.
This free training is offered by the Canadian Red Cross, in collaboration with the University of Ottawa Faculty of Education. While the info sessions and training will be provided in English, the free classroom resources are available in both English and French.
