The University of Manitoba Faculty of Law and the Mauro Chair in Human Rights and Social Justice is partnering with the International Humanitarian Law team at the Canadian Red Cross to host the 2nd annual IHL Conference, with this year’s theme: Upholding Humanity: Strengthening Civilian Protection in War. This FREE conference will be hosted in English and in person on Thursday, January 15th, 2026, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The conference is open to all students and professionals.
This annual conference brings together experts from across government, armed forces, academia, and the humanitarian sector to discuss current challenges and the continued importance of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) during armed conflicts. This year’s focus will be on the protection of civilians in current and future conflicts, examining how IHL principles are applied and adapted amid rapidly evolving warfare.
