The Red Cross Palliative Equipment Program provides health equipment to Vancouver residents registered with the B.C. Palliative Care Benefits Program.

Application process

Vancouver residents can be referred to the palliative equipment program by nurses, occupational therapists, or physiotherapists working in community health centres or hospitals.

Completed application forms should be faxed to the Red Cross at 604-270-8543.

Upon receipt of the forms, the Red Cross will connect with the designated contact person to arrange a time for delivery.

Equipment Available

The program has a stock of both new and used equipment for loan.  Equipment available includes:

  • Floor to ceiling poles
  • Hospital beds
  • Pressure relief mattresses and overlays
  • Floor and overhead lifts

Palliative clients are encouraged to first access the Red Cross Short Term Loan Program for equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, bathing aids and toileting aids.  The Palliative Program may be able to supply these items if they are unavailable through the Short Term Loan Program.

The Red Cross Palliative Program does not include biomedical equipment or disposable supplies.

Services Available

Equipment is delivered and installed in the home at no charge to the client.  If required, equipment is provided within 3 working days of the request.  Equipment repair is available as needed. Equipment pick up is also provided once the equipment is no longer needed.
