Photo of the Day: Helping families in West Africa

In this photo, women with malnourished children receive a card that entitles them to receive food. They will get oil, sugar, salt and flour as well as supplements for the infant.

Red Cross support is critical in helping families through the current food crisis in the Sahel region of West Africa, which includes Mauritania, Niger, Chad, Mali, Burkina Faso, and northern Senegal.

It is estimated that over 10 million people will be affected across the Sahel Region. The Red Cross has a strong presence in West Africa and is supporting local Red Cross Societies and communities by actively scaling up operations to meet the urgent needs of affected communities, while at the same time managing the risks before the situation becomes too advanced.
