Photo of the Day: Ice, ice baby!

Every day, we publish a photo to show Red Cross at work across the country or around the world. Do you have a photo to share? Let us know!

Last Thursday, Kingston, ON residents woke-up to discover their city covered in a coat of ice. Even though it wasn’t as extensive or damaging as the 1998 ice storm, last week’s storm did cause fallen tree branches and left some residents without power for hours.  This photo was taken by Red Cross Disaster Management Coordinator, Melissa Fougere and clearly shows how trees around town were encased with ice.

The Canadian Red Cross recommends that families have a kit on-hand with enough supplies to be self-sufficient for 72-hours in the event of an emergency – such as an ice storm. To learn more, visit www.redcross.ca/ready.
