These photos were taken by Canadian Red Cross aid worker Sophie Chavanel. Sophie is in Chad with the Canadian Red Cross emergency response unit, a field hospital that can be deployed in emergencies with a team of Canadian doctors, nurses and other experts. These photos show another field hospital on site – the Canadian one is in the process of being set up.

Over half of the districts in Chad are now affected and for the first time this year cholera cases are spreading not only across the nation, but into neighbouring Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon.  According to the Ministry of Health, more than 12,700 people have been affected and over 360 deaths have been recorded.
