Photo Tuesday: A glimpse into field hospital training

Every Tuesday, we publish a photo to show Red Cross at work across the country or around the world. Do you have a photo to share? Let us know!

This week, 35 Red Cross delegates from across Canada, and some from around the world, are taking part in rigorous training near Toronto for the Canadian Red Cross field hospital (or Emergency Response Unit as we know it).

For the training, the delegates - including doctors, nurses, logistical and technical experts - are participating in a mock disaster scenario to experience what they could face while out in the field.

When a disaster strikes, the field hospital can be deployed to provide assistance including basic health care, vaccinations, surgery and mobile medical services as needed. It also includes a psychosocial support unit and community-based health unit, both vital to help heal psychological wounds and prevent the spread of disease.

In the past year, we have deployed our field hospital to Haiti and Chad in response to cholera outbreaks in those countries.
