Instructor Development – Wilderness & Remote First Aid Program

Designed for candidates who wish to deliver Canadian Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid courses, including Remote First Aid, Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Responder. Course content focuses on instructional techniques, including delivering scenarios, organizing courses and how to support dynamic, learner-centred classroom environments.
Through our Instructor Development Centres, Instructors are supported with flexible, high-quality instructional tools to help them customize the learning environment to the various provincial, industry and personal learning needs of the participants.

Let’s Get Started
Below is the pathway to become a certified Instructor to teach Wilderness & Remote First Aid courses.
 
You must be 18 years or older, have a valid Canadian Red Cross participant level certification in the discipline you wish to teach, and successfully complete a skills evaluation. Candidates will attend the Wilderness & Remote First Aid discipline-specific classroom component and will complete their teaching experience classroom component on the course level they wish to teach.

Instructor pathway 
Certification
Certification is valid for three years and corresponds to the courses the Instructor wishes to teach. Potential certifications include the following:
  • Remote First Aid Instructor (RFAI) - certified to teach Remote First Aid
  • Wilderness First Aid Instructor (WFAI) - certified to teach Remote First Aid and Wilderness First Aid
  • Wilderness First Responder Instructor (WFRI) - certified to teach Remote First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, Oxygen Therapy, Airway Management, Basic Life Support and First Responder
