Volunteer Profile: Melanie Young

This week’s feature volunteer is Melanie Young who has been with the Canadian Red Cross for five years.
Like many Red Cross volunteers, Melanie has the opportunity to volunteer for several response teams. She serves as a member of the Personal Disaster Assistance team and the Emergency Response team in northern Manitoba where she helps people cope in the 72 hours after large and small-scale disasters.
“It is very rewarding when you’ve been able to help someone during some of the most stressful moments they will experience,” said Melanie.
When not devoting her time to the Red Cross, Melanie works in her family automotive business and volunteers for several other organizations in her community. She is a giving kind of lady.
Volunteers for the Red Cross give a great deal but they also receive the great joy that comes from helping others.
“I feel proud when people are able to go back to their communities and tell us we’ve made a difference. I am also proud when we are able to solve a conflict that people are experiencing.”
Feel proud to make a difference in your community like local hero Melanie Young. Learn more about volunteering for the Red Cross at www.redcross.ca/HeroesWantedMB, email vrs@redcross.ca or call 204-982-7330 for more details.
