At the beginning of July 2019, Little Grand Rapids First Nation and Pauingassi First Nation were evacuated to Winnipeg due to wildfires in their communities. They are located 270 km north of the city. By the middle of July, it was deemed safe for all members to return to their communities.

In total, 228 members of the two communities were evacuated: 110 from Little Grand Rapids and 118 from Pauingassi First Nation.
