Friendly Calls program expands in Alberta
- “Right away people are telling you, ‘I'm so thankful that you called. I was not expecting any other calls this week.’ They are happy to hear from us.”
That is the way Luisa Castro, the provincial coordinator of the Virtual Support Team describes the reaction of participants in the Friendly Calls program.

Back Home Again: A Movie about Hope, Strength, and Resilience
- Inspired by community resiliency after one of the largest wildfire evacuations in Canadian history impacted the lives of more than 80,000 residents of Fort McMurray and area in 2016, the animated short film, Back Home Again, was brought to life with support from the Canadian Red Cross and other partners.
Siksika Nation Memorandum of Understanding: Collaborating on Programs and Services
- With a traditional exchange of blankets, words of appreciation and signed documents, the Canadian Red Cross (CRC) and Siksika Nation formally agreed to collaborate and explore the delivery of programs and services together.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by the Canadian Red Cross and Siksika Chief Ouray Crowfoot in a ceremony at the Nation’s Council Chambers in November 2021.

- Disasters affect people in different ways, but hope, gratitude and determination prevail in stories of the devastating 2016 wildfires in Fort McMurray and the surrounding region.
Five years ago, wildfires in early May triggered the largest fire-related evacuation in Alberta’s history. More than 80,000 people were forced to seek safety away from their homes in the Wood Buffalo region.
