For the past month, the Homs branch of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has been delivering food aid and helping to rebuild destroyed communities in Syria that had been besieged by conflict.

SARC volunteers have been working tirelessly to ensure residents have hot meals, food and necessary cooking tools, in safe and clean living conditions.

Not only did returning residents not recognize the neighborhoods due to the severe destruction of infrastructure; the scene also looks very different to the thousands of families who couldn't evacuate and were trapped there for a long time.

The conflict in Syria has been ongoing for more than three years. Since then, 36 staff and volunteers of SARC have lost their lives while carrying out humanitarian activities. Canadians can help provide life-saving assistance by donating to the Red Cross Syria Crisis Fund.
